We got to the backyard in Morristown, New Jersey early and set up for Piper's Survivor birthday party. The stations were in place before the first guest arrived, and we were ready when they did.
We introduced ourselves and the kids shouted happy birthday to Piper. Then we split them into three tribes and handed out the buffs.
We ran through the plan and sent the tribes to their first stations. Blindfold Buffs took a stretch of the backyard. Pairs went out one after another. The kid with the blindfold walked for a buff on the ground. The partner tried to talk them onto it.
A talker said it was right there. The kid in the blindfold could not see what there was. They laughed and got silly, switched who wore the blindfold, and kept at it until we called the rotation.
The hour moved on. A tribe hit the river crossing and stalled, standing on the rocks and talking. Then they figured out they had to pass a rock from the back of the line to the front, and they started moving again.
When all three tribes came together they ran the carrot and torch relay. Piper was out there with her tribe.
The second rotation sent them back to the stations. A tribe spent that stretch at the puzzle table. After that rotation the tribes came together again for memory match.
The last rotation put the tribes back out, and then the hour was over. Piper's tribe was crowned.
Happy birthday, Piper. We stayed in the backyard for pizza and cupcakes, and the guests headed out with party favors.
